“ Les Classiques de la Villa Charlotte ” were created in 2023 and are organized by the City of Les Sables d'Olonne in partnership with the Friends of the Villa Charlotte.
The Villa Charlotte is a historic house in Les Sables d'Olonne that once belonged to Charlotte Vormèse (1871-1938), one of the great French violinists of the late 19th century and the muse of the house during the Belle Epoque. She marked her time by her sensitivity and modernism, playing and receiving the famous composers of this era such as Gabriel Fauré, Vincent d'Indy, Jules Massenet, Maurice Ravel and Camille Saint-Saëns. Charlotte also collaborated with many instrumentalists and singers, artists from the Parisian elite.
The Festival illustrates the City's desire to pay tribute to its musical heritage by perpetuating the classical music tradition in this emblematic and historic Sablais place.
Under the artistic direction of Fanny Clamagirand, the festival brings together artists from today's international scene, offering a rich and varied programming.
First of all, I would like to thank the Ville des Sables d’Olonne, Friends of the Villa Charlotte, and all the people behind this project, for the happiness and honor they do me by entrusting me with the artistic direction of this new cultural event in Les Sables d’Olonne. “ Les Classiques de la Villa Charlotte ”, is an international festival dedicated to classical music where the violin is the watermark.
It is indeed an accomplishment for each musician to shape, through the strength of his experience and his own sensibility, such a great event !
And even more so in a place in which I have already been received and performed several times, since my first visit to Les Sables d'Olonne in 2020 during the Folles Journées...
The connection is therefore already made and the adventure is only just beginning !
I can't wait to meet the public of the Sables d’Olonne again and to share with them, with all of you, what I imagined for this new musical chapter that I feel will be exceptional.
My wish therefore is to bring together solo performers or chamber musicians on the current international stage to celebrate classical music.
This would be in two cases. That of the gardens of Villa Charlotte, an emblematic site, bordering the ocean, nourished by such rich art and history, where the sounds of music of a past, embodied by the violinist Charlotte Vormese, resonate.
And that of the Logis du Fenestreau, the old shipowners' house, a place of charming pastoral poetry, which encourages inner travel and invites us to a feast of music.
Honoring and continuing the musical history of the Villa Charlotte, register, inscribe this festival in a strong artistic commitment in it giving an identity, a vision specific to our time, such is my ambition.
Beyond excellence, inspiration and shared values thanks to the artists, I want create a privileged link with the public, with all audiences, arouse emotion, convey the beauty and magic of music, through those suspended and timeless moments that offers us the concert and which bring us together, unite us.
I will always have at heart to defend a message of hope, a universal language of peace.
Finally, I aspire to a festival that is also a place of meeting and exchange between the arts, a gateway geared towards the future, with the ocean for the horizon.
